Coach Mark and Bear Mountain Fitness
Hey, I’m Coach Mark and I want to congratulate you right here and now for reading this page and looking around the website.
You’re taking some major action towards a personal goal by researching the idea of starting an exercise program or improving the quality your current training.
That’s a big step forward towards your success!
Here you can get a better idea of whether I’m a good fit for you and your goals. I suggest you start by watching this short video comprising of some collected footage of my history after I relocated to USA in 2011. You’ll see some testimonials, some training and feedback from past clients in the video.
I started my Personal Trainer journey by returning to higher education back in 2008 and later landing my first job at the City of London YMCA in the United Kingdom.
Unexpectedly, in addition to 1-on-1 personal training I led core and pilates classes for London’s Royal Ballet School students, ran group kickboxing classes and spoke about health at local companies.
Later, during my time in the USA I interned as a Physical Therapist Aide at a top sports clinic in Portland. Where I worked closely with the Oregon Trail Blazers medical team. I learned many special techniques in rehabilitation and gained a great deal of knowledge in how professional athletes train strength and conditioning for performance and overcome injuries.
Living so close to the fitness mecca’s of Seattle and San Francisco made it very convenient to become proficient in numerous coaching techniques, training modalities and acquiring rehabilitation certifications. Working with and learning from world class leaders in the health and fitness field and becoming a long time alumni of the American College of Sports Medicine and an IdeaFit Association member.
Some of my qualifications and certifications include:
- Strength Coach
- Functional Movement
- Kettlebell Training
- Olympic Rings Technique
- Special Forces Training
- TRX
- Myofascial Release
- Yoga Instruction
- Muay Thai Instructor
- Running Analysis
- Habit and Lifestyle Change
- Nutrition
- Fat-Loss and so much more
In general I would attend 3-4 certifications each year building on my foundational skills and gaining insights into health and wellness from different perspectives. Taking what I learned and reducing it down to its essentials to then include in my own style of training and coaching.
Although I no longer live in the USA I continue to acquire education from the best online sources available in the USA and in-person certifications available in Europe.
Currently, I hold a full-time position at Impulse Training Center in Lerkendal Soccer Stadium, Trondheim, Norway. In addition I manage my own wellness company based in the USA and coach clients remotely through Bear Mountain Fitness across the USA and several other countries.
Below is a more up-to-date video including an interview I took part in for Impulse Training Center in 2022. This is where I train and coach my in-person clients today.
3 Levels Of Online Training/Coaching
I strongly suggest that you focus your decisions around ‘real-time’ online coaching/training, as in my experience it’s your best path to accomplishing what you want.
[In-fact, unless you are looking for online training specifically or you want to work with me in particular. I would try to find a Personal Trainer you can trust and train with them in-person if you can.]
Simply put though, there are very good reasons why top performers use coaches and mentors – it gives them better results and faster than they could attain alone. Why should it be any different for you to be at your best.
When I talk about ‘real-time’ I mean training with me observing you during exercise. Just like traditional in-person training.
That way you’re getting immediate guidance and feedback, only remotely over the Zoom platform.
Below you can listen to Susan who kindly agreed to share her story on my podcast. Suzan was a client of mine who invested just over a year to online coaching with me. It was recorded early, 2022 and she describes her success with real-time training over the zoom platform with yours truly.
As you heard, this is by far the best way to succeed for most people when compered to a self directed plan; where you have a personalized program but you workout by yourself without feedback. Success is much more guaranteed and safer too with real-time training. So I can push you, adapt exercises on the spot and make sure your technique stays safe and effective.
Just the simple act of paying for a coach that always turns up and having that accountability, is a major incentive to staying committed and consistent. It’s a game changer for most people.
Self Directed Program
I do offer Self Directed programs that I build for clients from scratch. Taking into consideration your goals, past injuries, mobility challenges, nutrition needs, lifestyle habits and much more. If you’re confident, very motivated and have some past experience with another coach, this might be a good way for you to go if online Coaching is not in your budget right now.
A self directed program is similar to what the large online health and fitness websites are currently offering. However, I use my accumulated knowledge and experience to see you as a real and whole person. As apposed to using automated algorithms that will generate a generic workout plan. I’ll build your program from scratch and just for you and your individual needs.
And so, with the way I do Self Directed programs it is vital that we meet over Zoom for a thorough two way conversation from the start. So that I can fully understand what you want and need from a program before I build it for you. Generally, only independent coaches like myself will offer this level of service and it’s non negotiable when working with me. As it’s impossible to create a truly personalized program without some good old fashioned communication.
A little Nudge
This is mainly for my past clients who need to stay on track and for my fellow coaches and personal trainers that also need a little bit of an edge to be at their best. It may surprise you that a lot of PT’s need the same types of support as everyone else and I have been a mentor for other trainer’s and coaches for several years now.
You talk and I listen before giving you any feedback. You can talk about your current challenges, setting new goals and we even talk about general success outside of the topic of health and fitness. Anything that can affect your mindset or general wellbeing.
Other Types of Programs
I also have some pre-made programs if you’re looking for that form of guidance. For common goals like fat-loss and some that are more specific like ‘Glute Strength for Runners’ or ‘Get your First Pull-Up’. These are not adapted for your individual needs and compare to what many celebrity trainers, fitness influencers and ex-athletes are offering online.
These types of programs can be very effective for fine tuning your own training, training clients if you’re a certified PT or for accomplishing a specific goal. But understand that they are not personalized and so not ideal. These programs can be great if you’ve had success with health and fitness in the past and understand the basic behind exercise science and nutrition principles.
I’m a Professional Chef Too
Although my carrier as a personal trainer and wellness coach has been more than a full-time passion for over 15 years now. I have always kept one foot in world of professional cooking, either as a personal wellness chef, teaching, consultant or covering here and there for my friends restaurants.
I have found the knowledge gained from cooking in restaurants and at home over the 12 years of full-time cooking, 27 years including my part-time work. Has given me a much deeper understanding of food and health and I pass this knowledge on to my clients.
Helping you learn about preparing and cooking food to a high level and teaching you ‘how to do it’. Not just what you should be eating for your health and fitness goals.
Often the how to do it is what’s missing from peoples diets not the lack of knowledge on what is and isn’t healthy.
Before you speak out loud that you don’t have time to cook. Note that I’m a single parent, living in a foreign country, working full-time and running my own business. If I can do it you can too, and I’ll teach you how.
Your next step is to contact me and I’ll reply with some days and times to meet with you over Zoom.
